Virginia Commonwealth University - Energy Management Information System
BITHENERGY is helping Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) monitor and track their energy usage across 200 buildings while managing over 500 utility billing accounts. VCU was attempting to monitor their energy usage using two different software packages. This included monitoring 200 facilities and their own steam plant. The university was also trying to track the productivity of the steam plant as an energy source that they resell to a third party.
BITHENERGY implemented an Energy Management Information System featuring EnergyCAP to track and monitor energy usage. BITHENERGY set up the system, hosts and manages the database and input historical data to establish a baseline. BITHENERGY inputs data on a monthly basis and analyzes VCU’s utility bills. BITHENERGY is especially efficient at analyzing utility bills because of our extensive knowledge of complex rate schedules, various commodities and vendors. We are able to audit the usage data to verify that the energy usage information is accurate and create reports to help VCU correct billing errors.
EnergyCAP also allows the grouping of buildings to compare energy usage patterns and compute Energy Star Ratings. EnergyCAP also creates graphical models to assist with analyzing energy usage and with monitoring trends. Executive management reports are produced that help managers make decisions about energy usage, energy suppliers and future energy related recommendations. EnergyCAP provides a quick and easy way to monitor energy usage. It allows VCU to offload work from their staff and save resources. VCU now has access to energy management software experts. VCU’s cost savings more than cover the cost of software installation, hosting and monitoring services within the first year of operation.
