DGS Energy Management

DGS Energy Management Information Systems

BITHENERGY is helping the State of Maryland’s Department of General Services (DGS) monitor and track their energy usage across 62 different agencies while managing over 15,000 electric and gas accounts. DGS supports other state agencies in achieving their missions by managing state facilities, procurement, logistics and maintenance services.

DGS's Office of Energy Performance & Conservation was attempting to identify opportunities to reduce the budget deficit for the State of Maryland.

BITHENERGY implemented an Energy Management Information System to track and monitor energy usage. We set up the database system, input historical utility bill data to establish a baseline, host and manage the database. BITHENERGY inputs utility bill data on a monthly basis and analyzes DGS’s energy usage and spending.

During the course of this project, BITHENERGY uncovered a billing error for SHA that lead them to recover $91,000 dollars from Pepco. Also, for fiscal years 2010 and 2011, DGS, along with the University System of Maryland, achieved savings of approximately $11 million, compared to comparable fixed price contracts.

BITHENERGY is especially efficient at analyzing utility bills because of our extensive knowledge of complex rate schedules, various commodities and vendors. EnergyCAP allows the grouping of buildings to compare energy usage patterns and compute Energy Star Ratings as well as creates graphical models to assist with analyzing energy usage and with monitoring trends. Executive management reports are produced that help managers make decisions about energy usage, energy suppliers and future energy-related recommendations.
